Timetables and Underground Network
Milan and its surrounding area has a well-developed network of public transport. The transport company ATM includes 4 subway lines (red, green, yellow and purple lines), trams and buses. The waiting times are very short during the day. Tickets can be used for underground, bus and tram with changing.
Transfers between different lines is possible within the 90 minutes. Once validated the tickets you cannot get in with the same ticket for another ride!
Tickets are available in many bars, newspaper stands, tobacconists (tabacchi) and at all metro stations.

Tickets & fares public transport in Milan
- A single journey costs 1.50 € and is valid for 90 minutes.
- Ticket for luggage: € 2.10 for 90 minutes.
- A 10-card (carnet) costs 13.80 € for a 90 min ride.
- 24-hour day ticket: 4,50 €
- Evening ticket from 8pm: 3.00 EUR
- 48-hour ticket: 8,25 €

Underground Line 5 in Milan
2013 the first section of the Metropolitan line, Purple Line has been opened for public transport.
After five years of construction, the new metro line connects Zara (transfer possibility with line 3, yellow metro) with Bignami with stops Marche, Istria, Ca 'Granda, Bicocca and Ponale .
Between 6 am and 10 pm the purple metro runs every 6 minutes and needs between the termini 8 minutes driving time.
Now follows the expansion of other sections on Garibaldi (to transfer to the green metro M2), Monumental Cemetery, FieraMilanoCity Portello, Lotto (to transfer to the red metro M1) to the San Siro Stadium. Until 2015, the Metro Expo Line should be completely.
The special: The Metro runs fully automated and driverless.
News: The Underground Line 4 (Blu Line) is in construction and will connect the Linate Airport with the city center (Piazza San Babila).
